I have tried so many different diets and none of them seem to stick. I lose a little weight and then just give up and put it all back on again.
My weakness is chocolate, cakes, and biscuits. Anything rich, sugary and delicious I would not be able to stop eating. My problem was that I just couldn't stop. I wouldn't eat just a couple of cookies or just one normal sized chocolate bar, I would finish the packet or eat the sharing bars of chocolate to myself.
I had been looking into it and seen so many things about sugar being so bad for you and I really took this on board. At first, I didn't even want to give up chocolate because I love it so much but for my health and weight I knew I had to. But after reading into I Quit Sugar by Sarah Wilson it really opened my eyes to what I should be doing. Now I am not sticking to her program word for word but I have taken a lot of inspiration from her books and using a lot of her delicious recipes.
So I decided to quit sugar. Now, like I said I am not being super strict with myself and following it to the book but I have completely cut out all the obvious sugars such as cookies, cakes and doughnuts. I don't eat a lot of fruit either so this keeps my sugar consumption down, however, I wouldn't suggest cutting fruit out if you love it because I personally think the nutritional benefits outweigh the sugar content, especially in berries.
Reading Sarah Wilson's books educated me on where hidden sugar was such as ketchup, now I mainly use Mayonnaise - full of fat I know. Sarah suggests replacing your sugar with fats. I can tell you now I have not been scrimping on the fat at all. I have eaten bacon, lots of cheese, Avocados etc. I think this approach really works. I also stay away from Low-fat foods. These are generally packed with sugar to make up for the low-fat content. Just go for the full fat, most natural option.
I thought that I would really struggle and have withdrawal symptoms and headaches but I can honestly say I have been fine.
